Saturday 13th September 2025 saw Hinckley Squash & Racketball Club host its very first Hinckley Racketball Open, and what a way to kick things off! The event was a fantastic success, drawing players from across the Midlands for a full day of high-energy competition, sportsmanship, and plenty of laughs along the way.
From the first serve to the last rally, through several rounds of competition, the standard of play remained superb. Every grade delivered close-fought matches, nail-biting tiebreaks, and plenty of memorable moments on court. Off court, the club was buzzing — with players, supporters, and volunteers all contributing to an atmosphere that was both competitive and welcoming.
A huge thank you goes to our headline sponsor, The Recruitment Station in Hinckley, Rugby and Leicester, whose support made the event possible. We were super happy to have their co-Director Simon Sparrow on hand to watch the finals take place and present the finalists with their medals and trophies.
Thanks also go to the many volunteers who gave their time and energy to ensure everything ran smoothly. Whether it was marking, organising, or simply keeping players fuelled with teas, coffees, cakes and stews, you all played a vital part.
After the rounds of competition, the finalists were:
- James Bowden beat Ali Mutch to become A Grade Champion.
- Jackson Bowden beat Steve Durrant to become B Grade Champion.
- Laura Holding beat Helen Rees to become Ladies Champion.
- Steve Smith beat Richard Jackson to become Over 50s Champion.
- Faz Deen beat Rob Lathbury to become Over 60s Champion.
- Steve & Elliot Smith beat Tim Solley & Ali Mutch to become Fun Doubles Champions.
Congratulations to all our champions and finalists, and thank you to every player who entered. You helped set the bar high for what we hope will become an annual highlight in the racketball calendar.
We’re already excited for the Hinckley Racketball Open 2026 – bigger, better, and just as much fun. We'll keep you posted on the date in early 2026. Can anyone beat the Bowdens?
