The end of racketball as we know it

An important announcement on the future of our club

As you will be aware, the team of volunteers behind the scenes here at Hinckley Squash & Racketball Club are always looking to make changes as our membership, and sometimes even the sporting landscape, evolves.

It is undoubtably true that the average age of members at our club is skewing older. And it is also historically known to be the case that as a player - particularly a male player - reaches the big 40 they start to lose a certain amount of “vim” on the court. At this point they typically give up and start playing racketball.

But even as racketball gains popularity at our club, research from England Squash has deemed racketball too energetic for a club’s growing older membership. They have now mandated that racketball is to be phased out over the next two years in favour of pickleball.

To accommodate this initiative, we are proud to announce that we are changing our club’s name to Hinckley Squash & Pickleball Club!

Club member, John Branston, commented: “Now is the perfect time to pivot to pickle. Squash is the past, racketball isn’t a serious sport, pickleball is the future. Where else can you dominate a court with a bat? Highly recommended!”

Here’s your first look at our new logo that you’ll start to see being put on the walls of the club at some point this morning.

Racketball players are required to surrender their equipment to the club as part of the national racketball racket amnesty. You simply can't avoid getting into (a) pickle. Buy a bat!

So, how do you get started? Well it couldn’t be easier.

  1. Undergo a full health check-up from a qualified medical professional.
  2. Learn the rules of pickleball. They’ll be up on the noticeboard this morning.
  3. Sign up to our new pickleball leagues and free taster sessions.

We look forward to your ongoing support as we embrace pickleball and other initiatives. See you up there soon!

Get involved in your club!

We want to remain a volunteer-run to keep your fees low. Can you dedicate an hour a week to help us?

Our club operates on a ‘Not For Profit’ basis, with most day-to-day running undertaken by volunteers and members of our committee. This support helps in keeping membership and court fees much lower than other squash clubs, with arguably superior facilities.

From time to time we will put the word out if we require the help in a particular department, but in general terms if you would like to get involved and offer a little of your free time to progress the club please send us a message here.
